The last thing anyone wants is for their business to merely exist and be ignored. Thankfully, business owners have the option to prevent that from happening. That solution is to take advantage of Facebook’s free and useful advertising platform through its business page feature. This article will discuss how you can set up a Facebook business page instantly and properly.

Setting Up A Facebook Business Page – Preparation Phase

Access your account through Facebook’s Business Manager. Don’t try to create a new or dummy account to use on your page, as Facebook may deactivate both the account and the page.

You can also create a page through the regular version of the site. However, Facebook’s Business Manager’s interface provides a cleaner layout and easy access to all the tools you need to run your business page.

Another thing to note is that with the recent update in Facebook’s layout, some of the tutorials you will find on the web will be outdated. Please note that this guide is for the desktop view of Facebook’s new design, released in 2020.

Creating A Page

Before you start, prepare the profile and cover picture you’ll upload for the page. Your business logo can work as the profile picture, while a picture of your office, shop, products, or a picture of you providing service can work as your cover photo.

With the pictures out of the way, here are the steps you need to take:

  1. Proceed to create a business page by going to this link by clicking here to set up a Facebook business page.
  2. On this page, you must select if your page is for a Business/Brand or a Community/Public Figure. Choose the former and click on Get Started.
  3. Then, you need to provide pieces of information about your page or what it will represent.
    • Page Name: Be sure to put the correct name for your organization, business, or brand.
    • Category: Once you type in the text field, Facebook will provide you autocomplete choices to choose from.
  4. After you’ve indicated a category, Facebook will proceed to ask about your business’ contact information, such as address (required) and phone number (optional). Note that you have the option to prevent Facebook from showing these pieces of information in public by clicking the checkbox below the phone number field.
  5. Click on Create Page once you’re done. You will then proceed to:
    • Uploading a profile picture
    • Uploading a cover photo
    • Agreeing to use or skipping Facebook’s free online booking feature

Your business page is considered set up after you finish uploading pictures and dealing with the booking feature. It is now live, and people can find it in search results. Facebook will usher you to invite people from your personal account to like your newly created page.

While it may seem like that’s all you have to do, you’re not done yet.

Editing Your Page’s Information

At this point, you are free to continue configuring and setting up your business page. You can also explore the various tabs and links within your page’s admin page. However, you should start by editing the other information on your page that wasn’t covered in the creation stage first.

Completing or filling in the page info form can help your business page have a higher chance of being displayed to your followers and people who Facebook deems to have the behavior and interests your target audience has based on the information you provided.

Let’s look at the information Facebook uses to decide who to show your page to and how to fill it out to best reach your audience.

Description

Indicate the purpose of the page or the description of the service or product you offer. Note that there’s a character limit of 255 for the description (approximately around 50–100 words). If you have the budget, you can get a copywriter to do the description for you.

Category

You can put an additional two categories to describe your business or brand. Know that accurately putting the right categories that describe your business makes it easier for your page to be seen by your target audience when you run ads or post new content.

Additional Information

If you feel that the description field limited your ability to accurately depict your business, you can write more about it in the Additional Information field. It will allow you to write at least 10,000 characters (approximately around 2,000–2,500 words) worth of additional description.

Additional Contact Information and Location

Facebook generates a map based on the address you provided. If the map is inaccurate, you can reposition the map marker to show the accurate location of your business.

Next, if you deliver your products or travel to provide services, you should indicate your service area. You can select up to ten regions, cities, or neighborhoods to accurately show your service area.

Lastly, you can also type your website and email address in the additional contact information section to give visitors alternative ways to get in touch or do business with you.

Optional Fields You Can Fill In While You Set Up a Facebook Business Page

Other information you can fill in is Impressum, price range, and privacy policy link. Here is a quick guide to knowing whether you need to deal with them:

  • You only need to be concerned with Impressum if your business is in Germany. It’s a type of “About Us” or “Terms of Service” section, and there are no legal implications for not having this filled out in the US.
  • When it comes to the price range, you can either indicate it or not. It depends on your marketing strategy.
  • You need to put a privacy policy if you make your customers send you sensitive information over the page like payment or contact details.

Editing Your Page Settings

After completing your page’s information, you can proceed to edit your page settings. Keep in mind that you don’t need to change anything in this section right away. You can familiarize yourself with the vast array of optional settings you can change on your business page. Most of the settings here affect the following:

  • How your visitors can interact with your page
  • How your page appears on searches and to visitors
  • Determine the people who you want to see your business page
  • Connect it to other platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp
  • And other miscellaneous stuff like notifications, messaging, and payment options

End Your Day with Your First Post

Setting up a business page on Facebook wasn’t that hard, was it? Well, it’s time to submit your first post! No one will see it, but it would be nice to know that it works.

Now, prepare yourself. Know that learning how to set up a Facebook business page is the easiest part of marketing your business on Facebook. The next step is to research how you can grow your number of followers, keep them engaged, and convert them into paying customers. Once you learn all of that, you’ll never have to worry about your business getting ignored ever again.

Invite Your Friends to Like Your Facebook Business Page

To start getting some traction on Facebook send invites to friends by click on the ellipsis button (3 dots), next to the search icon on your page. Invite all your friends that you think will benefit from your page. You can also send an email blast to your leads and customers. Ask them to like your page, and to look out for special promotions and news.

Post Regularly on Your Page

At a minimum, you should be posting 3 times a week to your page. However, you can post every day if you prefer but we don’t recommend posting more than two times per day. If you don’t have time to post, consider using AnswerAide to create content, and schedule your posts to engage your followers. Learn more about our Social Media Content Management.
